I'm not much of a writer, but I like to add short poems to go along with my illustrations.

Would you mind giving me some constructive criticism on this poem that I wrote?  The illustration isn't complete but the characters resemble the two in the thumb I've shared :).

Please feel free to also post any work you'd like me to view/critique/comment, as well.

Here is the poem:

alas, a shady figure

cast itself upon my fire

bestowing hollow promises

to fulfill my true desire.

i, untrusting of the dark,

graciously declined-

but welcomed forth the shadow to

the warmth of burning pine.

as the shade grew nearer,

littler it became,

then soon the falsehoods of the dark

were engulfed within my flame.

Here is an illustration similar in concept:

Love Letter by ODDITYILLUSTRATION

Alas, a shady figure
cast itself upon my fire
bestowing hollow promises
to fulfill my true desire.
I, untrusting of the dark,
graciously declined-
but welcomed forth the shadow to
the warmth of burning pine.
As the shade grew nearer,
littler it became,
then soon the falsehoods of the dark
were engulfed within my flame.

This is a short poem I wrote which accompanies an illustration I'm working on.  I hope you like the poem :) I'll be posting the artwork soon!

Hi guys!

So I've recently been asked if I would sell and display a few of my prints at a gallery in my city.  It's my first time ever doing this other than selling to family and friends here and there, and I'm curious to see which of my prints you think would be best fit to display and sell.  I'm going to post the thumbnails.  I can display four at the gallery at a time.

Right now I'm 100% sure that the "Lost at Sea" one is going up and also the creature/little girl one.

Your opinions, and why you have that opinion would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Managing to render textures and contrast such as this with pencil is really impressive. I know you mentioned the use of gel pen, but even with that being said, graphite is an extremely difficult medium to make look finished or professional and you've done a really well job with the task. The dragon on the bottom right corner is absolutely stunning. The textures on the tongue, upper nose, and cheek are so believable and the contours are integrated really well into the drawing without being extremely distinguishable on their own. I think the dragon that could use the most improvement would be the dragon directly beside this one. While the contrast is impressive and there are still signs of texture, they kind of get lost in the white contours versus the bold outline. All in all, it really looks like you know what your doing and I am excited to see some more dragons!!

Firstly, I want to say that the displayed skill in the character is very impressive. The use of color in the legs shows the work of a skilled artist. Her design is adorable and elegant. I feel like I really can tell what this character is like just by the way she is rendered. Overall, the color palette in the piece is very nice and aesthetically satisfying. I agree, however, with the critic below somewhat with the simplicity of the background. I think that this piece would either work better with a way simpler background, like a simple gradient or subtle pattern without the water in the foreground OR with a much more detailed background and rainfall. The realism in the water (ripples, reflections) is really well done, but it doesn't really compliment the cartoony raindrops and striped background. This character would look awesome if placed in an atmosphere just as elegant as she is. The only other thing that I could see might use some improvement is the shoes and the character's hands. The right shoe that is further away looks fine, but the one closer towards us doesn't match the other shoe, and has a kind of weird shape to it at the toes. Also, her hands look a little big for such an otherwise dainty and feminine character. Overall, this piece is really successful especially your skill in character design and use of color! Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see what else you have in store for us!
